Jujutsu Kaisen is a popular manga and anime series that follows the adventures of Yuji Itadori, a high school student who becomes a jujutsu sorcerer after swallowing a finger of the legendary cursed spirit Sukuna. Along with his friends and mentors, Yuji battles against various threats from the world of curses, while also trying to collect the remaining fingers of Sukuna and exorcise him from his body.
One of the most prominent and beloved characters in the series is Satoru Gojo, a special grade jujutsu sorcerer and a teacher at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College. Gojo is widely regarded as the strongest sorcerer in the world, thanks to his rare combination of inherited techniques: the Limitless and the Six Eyes. He is also a charismatic and playful person who cares deeply for his students and allies.
However, in a shocking turn of events, Gojo was seemingly killed by Sukuna in chapter 236 of the manga, leaving fans in disbelief and despair. Is Gojo really dead? How did he die? And is there any chance that he will come back to life? Here is what we know so far.
Gojo’s Death Explained
Gojo’s death occurred during his fierce battle with Sukuna, who had taken over Yuji’s body after the latter was stabbed by a cursed tool. Sukuna had unleashed his Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine, which trapped Gojo inside a cursed space where Sukuna had the advantage. However, Gojo was able to counter Sukuna’s domain with his own, Infinite Void, which overwhelmed Sukuna with infinite information and rendered him unable to move or think.
It seemed that Gojo had won the fight, but Sukuna had a secret plan. He had been using his shikigami, Mahoraga, to adapt to Gojo’s infinity, which is a technique that creates an impenetrable barrier between Gojo and anything that tries to touch him. Sukuna wanted to use Mahoraga’s adaptation as a blueprint to create his own attack that could bypass Gojo’s infinity and cut him.
Sukuna succeeded in doing so, and launched a slashing attack that was different from his usual Cleave and Dismantle. This attack was able to cut anything and everything in front of it, even space, existence, and the world. Gojo was caught off guard by this attack, and was sliced in half by Sukuna. Gojo’s upper body fell to the ground, while his lower body remained inside his domain.
Gojo’s Current Status
As of chapter 236, Gojo is confirmed to be dead. His death was witnessed by Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, who were also inside Sukuna’s domain. They were shocked and devastated by Gojo’s demise, and tried to attack Sukuna in a fit of rage. However, Sukuna easily brushed them off, and mocked them for their futile efforts.
Gojo’s death was also a huge blow for the jujutsu society, as he was the strongest and most influential sorcerer in the world.
